Overview

The OpenECU Gasoline Engine Control Strategies are a group of Simulink models capable of running a typical modern engine, up to a V8, through an OpenECU electronic control module.

The strategies can be used as supplied or the off-the-shelf features can be used in an open-book fashion and tailored to meet the exact requirements of the application.

OpenECU Strategy concept Gasoline engine control strategy features
Time and time again, teams who wish to develop an enhancement to their existing engine control strategies, find their efforts frustrated because:

  • the ECU manufacturer does not wish to implement the change
  • even where the OEM has specified the strategies, the OEM may not have access to the source
  • isolating a feature in the original ECU for bypassing is not always possible, and can lead to the use of multiple boxes which adds complexity to vehicle based development
  • available rapid prototyping systems can require a substantial investment in engineering time to establish the baseline control system on which the new feature will be developed
  • available rapid prototyping systems can require a substantial capital investment to purchase the development tools and hardware
  • available rapid prototyping systems can preclude fleet trials due to prohibitive ECU cost and packaging difficulties
  • Electronic throttle and conventional cable throttles supported.
  • Idle speed control
  • Speed density based system
  • Closed loop and adaptive fuelling strategies
  • Simultaneous/grouped/sequential fuelling
  • Fan control
  • Input signal conditioning and fault monitoring
  • Rev limiting
  • Barometric pressure estimation and compensation
  • Startup strategies
  • Transient operation
  • Decel. fuel shutoff
  • Driveability features
  • Air conditioning interface
  • Evaporative emmissions management
  • Catalyst protection
