Cars and trucks are now incredibly complex with electronics and software featuring in most applications on the vehicle, ranging from powertrain and chassis, through body modules to complex infotainment and interior systems – and Pi Shurlok is at the heart of them all. Transportation industry electronics is the fastest growing sector of the industry, and is undergoing huge changes as legislation makes emission control more complex, consumer electronics drives infotainment change, and concern over fuel reserves drives the development of hybrid vehicles.

Pi Shurlok is accelerating the development of its core products - the OpenECU family – with the development and introduction of several new products during 2010.

As a result of this increased level of activity, Pi Shurlok has an opportunity for a Junior Technician.

You will provide practical development support to design and project teams including local assembly, wiring and testing capabilities for the creation of prototype units and support of existing products.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Work to documented procedures across a wide range of electronics and product assembly tasks associated with vehicle-ready products for customers and development equipment
  • PCB assembly from prototype assembly information using surface mount components.
  • Loom assembly from engineering sketches/drawings
  • Executing board/product tests from production standard documentation
  • Quality inspection following written procedure
  • Familiarity with documentation tools (Word, Excel) and with ability to create/modify documents if necessary
  • Support store-keeping activities for parts and products

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Educated to GCSE level including Maths & English, and a computer user.
  • Basic electronics qualification or apprenticeship, or limited experience in an electronics assembly role.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and accept instructions from different people

Advantageous Skills and Experience:
  • Valid IPC-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies certificate
  • Mechanical prototyping/ workshop experience - to produce innovative solutions often with minimal resources - the ability to make basic metal work components
  • Experience of testing electronic products and fault finding
