Login OpenECU - Standard Hardware

As all OpenECU™ electronic control units are designed to vehicle standards, they can be used directly for prototype and fleet trail use. Validation is done to automotive and military standards which significantly reduce time and cost if further applications specific qualification is required before moving to volume production.

Each member of the OpenECU family has been carefully specified to be suited to a broard range of applications, with configuration options either specified in software or when ordering.

The standard modules, listed below, can all support the addition of a custom daughter card to enable extremely cost effective custom solutions to be created in a fraction of the time required to develop a custom ECU from scratch.

Special variants of OpenECU modules are available with memory configurations that enable the use of calibration on-the-fly tools during applications development.

The M100 module is a compact electronics module that is suited to a wide range of vehicle control applications, including communications gateways and ancillary function control.

Based on the Freescale HCS12 16-bit microcontroller and featuring, 2 CAN Interfaces, 16 standard input/output functions and 8 uncommitted LED indicators; the M100 is often used in prototype applications to integrate and adapt a range of existing closed modules to the new system configuration.

Typical Applications:

  • Communication gateways
  • Ancillary function control

The M250 module is a compact electronics module that is suited to computationally intensive applications requiring a chassis mounted, sealed metal housing with IP67 environmental protection.

Based on the same Freescale MPC5534 32-bit microcontroller as the M460, the M250 features 2 CAN interfaces, precision analogue 12-bit inputs and configurable high current switching outputs.

The M250 is suited to a wide range of computationally intensive applications, as found in diesel exhaust after-treatment, chassis control and ancillary function. Coupled with the S050 slave driver unit it is an ideal solution for diesel fuel injection applications.

Typical Applications:

  • Diesel exhaust after-treatment control
  • Chassis control
  • Computationally intensive ancillary controls
  • Control with high current switching capability
  • Diesel engine management when coupled with the S050  slave fuel injection driver

The M460/M461 are high performance electronics modules that are suited to applications requiring a large number of input/outputs on a chassis mounted, sealed metal housing with IP68 environmental protection.

Based on the Freescale MPC5534 32-bit microcontroller, the M460 features 2 CAN interfaces and 56 standard input/output functions via two 40-way connectors. The precision analogue functions include direct support for RTD sensors and thermocouples, while the configurable high current switching outputs support injector, spark and PWM drives. The M461 variant also includes on-board 3-axis gyro and accelerometers to meet the needs of active suspension and vehicle stability applications.

Typical Applications:

  • Diesel after-treatment control
  • Transmission control
  • Complex ancillary vehicle functions

The G850 is a high performance electronics module particularly suited to multi-cylinder (up to 8) gasoline engine management applications. It is supplied in a chassis mount, extremely rugged, sealed metal housing with IP65 environmental protection.

Based on the Freescale MPC565 32-bit microcontroller the G850 features CAN interface and 81 standard input/output functions via one 70-way and two 50-way connectors. This product has been in volume production for many years, and in a very wide range of applications.

Typical Applications:

  • Gasoline and diesel engine management
  • Exhaust after-treatment control
  • Body controls
  • Suspension control
  • Transmission control
  • Ancillary function control

The S070 module is a compact slave electronics module design to add direct drive capability for diesel engine fuel injectors to the OpenECU M2xx family of intelligent electronics control modules.

Each module can be configured to provide up to 5 fully protected drive channels that are suitable for solenoid or piezoelectric injectors.

There is an option to include an internal diagnostic microprocessor module and CAN interface that deliver diagnostic information to other vehicle systems and control configuration options via software commands.

(The S070 module was previously named M010 in preliminary documentation)
